Freeway!

Freeway is certainly my favorite movie this semester. Reese Witherspoon ha not aged a bit since her role as Vanessa. I thought this movie has dark comedy molded into the film.

I enjoyed Vanessa is young but is still able to defend herself; for example, when she is in jail and she attacks another inmate with barely having any confrontation with the inmate. Vanessa is a very witty character, that not only thinks of her own best intentions, but also the intentions of others. One example of how Vanessa thinks of the intentions of others, is her reason for (attempting) killing Bob; she thought that if she didn't kill Bob, he would continue to kill other innocent girls in the future. Although Vanessa is as young as she is, she was a very independent girl; when her parents were arrested for prostitution and drug use, Vanessa did not even seem surprised or upset.

Throughout the movie, there were many relations to little red riding hood; when Vanessa outsmarted Bob so she was able to get her gun relates to how little red riding hood tricks the wolf in order to escape. Another relation to little red ridding hood was when Bob dresses up as Vanessa's grandmother to trick her. Overall Vanessa plays an innocent little girl just like little red riding hood does in her story.

I really enjoyed this movie Freeway, i thought the story was great while having dark comedy to relieve tension.

  1. take a look at the post on "exploitation" films on the main class blog before class tonight. I want to talk about how this film also works with/against those conventions.
