Hamlet
Sorry I'm so late wit the Hamlet i couldn't make it to last class and completely forgot about the blog. I found Hamlet to be alright. I've read the book and I'm not sure what it is but I felt like it was missing something. I felt that because it was a modern day take that it was odd that at the end of the film Hamlet and Horatio had a sword fight i thought they would have done it differently. I did like how instead of being the king and prince and have a castle of Denmark they used a big corporation in ny and hamlet was more like the heir of the company and even though they called Claudius the new king he was more like the CEO and when the company gets taken over by Fortinbras. I thought that was a great concept. I also like the way Hamlet did his to be or not to be speech how it first starts with the gun in his mouth because it is all about him contemplating suicide and then how he’s in blockbuster in the action aisle. I've seen a few hamlet films and usually I don't like the character Polonius but in this film I really liked Bill Murray playing him. What i also thought was different and i've never seen done before in a Hamlet film was at the end of the film they made it like his mother drank the poison on purpose and she knew it was poison but every version I've seen she drank the drink by accident and had no idea there was poison in it. I also liked Ophelia in the story some people said in class she was a little boring but in the play she doesn’t really have any personality and she’s just really odd and just listens to her dad and brother. Oh and I was reading the blog I was actually surprised and found it pretty funny that there are Shakespeare porno’s and I’m really excited for Freeway it looks to be very interesting and I love Reese Witherspoon.

Well its not a sword fight, its a fencing match and that IS how the play originally ends believe it or not!
ReplyDeleteYou should check out some of Bill Murray's other 'serious' work. He's a highly underrated actor.
When I was watching the film, one thing I couldn't get passed was how terrible I thought Bill Murray's acting was. Maybe being a child of the Ghostbusters generation ruined him for me! Could you recommend any other movies where he played a 'serious' role? I'll try to give him another chance, haha!
