Absence

So, the sickness that everyone seemed to have finally got me too :( I thought I was doing a good job of holding my breath near coughers and Purelling my hands after every door handle but... I was wrong. Very disappointed about having to miss our first film. However, I did read up on some information about La Jetee. I'm a little nervous about the fact that it's a series of still shots. That seems like it could be a little boring. I found links to the full movie online, so that's my plan for tomorrow since we're still snowed in and I'm stuck in bed anyways. I'll re-comment on my own comment once I have an opinion to share. Hopefully I'll pick up on some things that were discussed in class on my own. We'll see!

  1. Thanks for posting anyway, even though you had to miss class. The link over on the main class blog to the full version of la Jetee is for a VERY CRAPPY copy--one that has severe digital artifacting. So, I hesitate to recommend it for a first viewing. There are bits of it around the net: both the French language version, the original English subtitles and the newer English language version (this is what we saw in class, and what the crappy version is, too), that can give you an approximation. But really, I think you need to see a good print first. We will look at it again in the class after next; its only 26 minutes long--easy to review. Take a look at some of the essays hyperlinked in the "Introducing la Jetee" post over at the main class blog.

I will also be posting a lot of other things there this weekend as well that you can log about.
